Online Meeting for Women's Ministry

Making Online Meeting Places

in Women's Ministry

As women's ministry leaders in 2023, you know things aren't the same as they were in 1983 or even in 2003. Life has changed for everyone where technology is concerned, our women in our churches included. So of course we can't do ministry in the same way because our very basic way we communicate has changed. We have moved to an online generation.

As much as I love meeting in real life with real people and exchanging real-time fellowship, we live in a new digital age and we are going to have to make some online meeting places for our women or we won't have any communication with them.

Most of us have groups of some sort that we hang out in online. Most of us probably have those stops we make as we pop onto our phones. We check up on those we follow. We drop into an online group and see what our online friends are up to for the day or week. We maybe stop over and even watch some Tick Toks to see what is popular at the moment.

Face it. We all have our online hangouts, just like stopping into our local coffee shop and hanging out with friends. So, with all of this said, don't we want to have at least one hangout place for the women in our local church women's ministry program? Don't we want those women to pop in and see what the other women are up to for the day? I think we have to make some allowances for those women who live the majority of their lives online.

So, how do we do that? Let's look at some possibilities.

Meeting Place Ideas

Group Texts

Some women's groups use just plain old group texts to keep up with each other. It's great for a place for reminders, prayer requests, and just everyday happenings. One thing you must do though is not add anyone that doesn't want added. And it's best to have a few rules in place, such as texting hours only between certain hours, unless it's a life and death prayer request. You may need to ban certain topics that you know will just cause arguments in your groups. If you have done group texting much, you know the things that bother people. I don't have to tell you.

Facebook Group

I'm pretty familiar with this one because I have one of these for all of you women's leaders over in my Women's Ministry Exchange. You can have a private Facebook group and just allow your own ladies to become members, so you keep the place all to yourself. I think that's good for a women's ministry church group because you can talk in private, share prayer requests, chat about local things, and use it as a motivating place specifically for your ladies.

Discord

My daughter is in some movie and book type groups on Discord and loves using it. You can invite people and have a place all of your own to communicate together.

I hope you won't just disregard that your ladies need an online meeting place or at least one place they can talk back and forth on their devices because that's how we live these days. We just can't ignore the technelogical age in which we live.

What? No Mailing List?

The answer is "no" I don't maintain one any more for a lot of reasons, but you can keep up with the Julia Bettencourt Ramblings Facebook Page for announcements of anything new on the website.

Keeping it Simple

I have reduced my social media to just Facebook and Instagram.
