What is a Women's Ministry Statement?

Within women’s ministry, mission statements are basically the vision and purpose for that particular ministry. They shouldn’t be too broad that you don’t have a focus, but yet you don’t want them so narrow that you don’t cover the areas that you want.

Also, you don’t want them so narrow that when a lady reads it on your brochure or website, that they feel excluded or that your women’s ministry isn’t for them.

Missions or visions should be that bigger picture to cover what the ministry is about and what goal it wants to achieve. It is not events and activities but the deeper purpose behind those events and activities.

Most women involved in a women’s ministry group probably aren’t even aware of their formal mission statement even though they most likely know what their mission or purpose is. They usually know what the direction of their women’s ministry is but it is just not something that is thought about or talked about much.

If you are trying to bring in new women to the group, a mission statement can be very helpful on a brochure or online women’s ministry webpage. People are looking to see what you are all about. Women checking out your church page will want to see what direction the ladies group is headed, so a mission or purpose statement can be helpful.

If your group decides to have a mission statement or to change an existing one, do it prayerfully with considerable thought at what direction you want to take the women’s ministry of your local church. Be sure to talk it over with your pastor and church leadership before changing or making a mission statement. This is one of those areas where you as a leader need to get advice and guidance. Your group may need to submit some mission statement proposals to leadership before it can be changed or implemented.
