Confidentiality in Women's Ministry Teams
Julia Bettencourt
March, 2015, From the Online Leadership Conference.
There is a definite need for confidentiality within women's ministry and within women's ministry teams. A good rule of thumb is whatever happens (or is said) in a team meeting stays in a team meeting.A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter. Proverbs 11:13 (KJV)
A prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness. Proverbs 12:23 (KJV)
What Should be kept Confidential?
As you can see from the list below, I feel like everything should be kept confidential. Your women are putting their faith and trust in having a place of private fellowship, praise, worship, study, or whatever the occassion. It doesn't even matter if it is a public space, use wisdom in being confidential about anything happening within your women's group.
- Anything said in team meetings should be kept confidential.
- Anything said by women during women’s ministry Bible studies, events, and activities should be kept confidential.
- Anything said by women in prayer or by way of prayer requests should be kept confidential.
- Anything brought to you by one of the women should be kept confidential even when you are approached apart from women’s ministry activities.
- Anything the team leader and other team members relay to you should be kept confidential.
It doesn’t matter the subject, just consider anything said by the women within meetings and activities confidential. Our women need a safe environment where they feel at ease sharing their prayer requests, their concerns, and their heart.
