Brainstorming in Women's Ministry

Brainstorming is one of those valuable tools in women's ministry. You can brainstorm with just one other lady, a couple other leaders, with church staff, with a leadership team, or with a small group of volunteers. Yes! You can even brainstorm all by yourself! It really depends on what you are brainstorming. There are some topics you just wouldn't want to brainstorm with large groups or you will never pair down your ideas.

What is Brainstorming?

brainstorming: a group problem-solving technique that involves the spontaneous contribution of ideas from all members of the group; also : the mulling over of ideas by one or more individuals in an attempt to devise or find a solution to a problem— Merriam-Webster

Brainstorming Tip

Keep brainstorming sessions on a specific subject only or you will get overwhelmed with ideas on all kinds of things all at once. Sometimes those broad topic sessions don’t turn out very fruitful. Keep the topic limited at each brainstorming session you plan.

Topics to Brainstorm in Women's Ministry

Needs vary from church to church, so look around your church (your entire church, not just your women's ministry areas) and really take a look at how your women can be a driving force to further the gospel and strengthen your women at the same time through your church.

  • Topics for Bible study
  • Events and activities to hold
  • Themes for the year
  • How to infuse more friendships among the women
  • How to get the women to serve throughout the church more
  • The types of community outreaches to hold
  • If and what types of women's prayer groups are needed
  • How the women's ministry can enhance the church and its other ministries
  • How the women's ministry can serve the elderly, children, college students, church staff, etc. of the church.
  • How the women's ministry can encourage the pastor, his wife, and family more
  • Ways to lessen the stress of the women of your church
  • Ways to meet specific needs of the families within your church
