A Common Bond in Women's Ministry

Possessing a Common Bond

A Common Bond Series Part 1

In women’s ministry we encounter all types of women. They are from different stages of life. They have different values. They have different priorities. They have different outlooks on the world.

All women are not the same and when we bring them all under the umbrella of women’s ministry, there are going to be different opinions, different wants and needs, and different perspectives. Our women within our groups are going to be a medley of different gifts, talents, and skills.

A Common Bond for a Medley of Women

What we have to do is mesh everyone together. We need to get them looking at the same vision. They have to be linked to the same goals. If they know Christ, then they already have that in common. I think we need to focus on those key elements that bind us all together to get our women’s groups moving in the right direction.

1.  We Have a Common Master

First, when we know Christ, it doesn’t matter who we are, what our age, what our situation in life, we are all part of God’s family. We serve the true and living God and it is the heart of our bond.

The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. Romans 8:16,17 (KJV)
For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us… Romans 12:4-6 (KJV)

2. We Have a Common Commission

Another way we are bonded is that we are all given the same job to do. We are to fulfill the Great Commission which is found in Matthew chapter 28.

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Matthew 28:18-20 (KJV)

That commission should unite us. We all have the same goal, which is to bring others to Christ. We should be working alongside of each other to see souls saved and lives changed for Christ.

3.  We Have a Common Commandment

Jesus left us all a commandment to follow and it should bind us together because of what that commandment is—that is to love each other.

A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. John 13:34, 35 (KJV)
Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. 1 John 4:7,8 (KJV)

4.   We Have a Common Worship

Worship is an essential part of the Christian life. It is one of the common things we can immerse ourselves in with other Christian women. We worship the true and living God.

Look at some of the words associated with worship—honor, praise, glorify, adore, reverence. It makes it kind of hard to dwell on our differences when we are worshipping the God of Creation. Doesn’t it? When we think about worshipping a holy God it puts things into perspective.

Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness. Psalm 29:2 (KJV)
Exalt ye the LORD our God, and worship at his footstool; for he is holy. Psalm 99:5 (KJV)

It's such a great opportunity to work with a such a common bond for a medley of women!
