Travel Topic Writing Ideas

Okay, today I thought I’d give you some more writing ideas. I’m working on reposting some party/event themes and the travel one will be next, so I’m sharing some writing ideas to go along with that.

Travel Topic Devotional Ideas

When we think about the Bible and biblical characters, there are so many “journey’s” to ponder over in our minds. I’ve tried to put some of my favorites in this list of ideas for you.

As always, the devotional writing ideas are for you to study the topic, add your own ideas and thoughts on that subject, and write something of your own. I leave you a few tidbits to mull over, and you take it from there! I think you could probably take several of these and turn them into points for just one devotion on some journeys throughout Bible times. Each of the bibllical characters in these stories learned some valuable lessons from their trips.

Please! Enjoy both the studying and the writing process.

“Bible Travel” Devotional/Article Writing Ideas

While The Cats Away Trip

This is the story of the man who gave money (talents) to his servants to use their skills with  before he went on a journey.  So, what will he come home from his trip to find?

Matthew 25:14-46

Key Travel Verse:

For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.  And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.  Matthew 25:14 (KJV)

The Journey Home

This is the story of Ruth and her mother-in-law, Naomi, and how they traveled to Naomi’s home country in order to have food to live and how God blessed them.

The Book of Ruth

Key Travel Verses

Then she arose with her daughters in law, that she might return from the country of Moab: for she had heard in the country of Moab how that the LORD had visited his people in giving them bread.  Wherefore she went forth out of the place where she was, and her two daughters in law with her; and they went on the way to return unto the land of Judah.  Ruth 1:6-7 (KJV)

(You can find more out about Naomi’s trip in The Shattered Mom’s Club series.)

Trip Through the Water Walls

The children of Israel got to see a one in a million sight that day that they crossed over the Red Sea.  Think about what an exciting “road trip” that was!

Exodus 14

Key Travel Verses

And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.  And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.  And the Egyptians pursued, and went in after them to the midst of the sea, even all Pharaoh’s horses, his chariots, and his horsemen.  Exodus 14:21-23 (KJV)

Wilderness Wanderings

There are so many interesting things that happened to the Children of Israel from the time they left Egypt until they (some of them) went into Cannan.  Their road trip was full of hardships and blessings.

Joshua 5:6; Exodus 16-17 (There are many passages in the Bible about the Children of Israel in the desert (the whole book of Exodus mainly) and you could do a deep dive into those, but I’ll mention just these two chapters in Exodus because they are a good place to find out what the trip was really like.)

Key Travel Verse

For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people that were men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD: unto whom the LORD sware that he would not shew them the land, which the LORD sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land that floweth with milk and honey.  Joshua 5:6 (KJV)

Trip of Necessity

Sometimes trips are born out of necessity and David found himself in that position.  For us it may be a funeral, unanticipated business trip, or we may have to travel to see a loved one who is extremely sick. David took an impromptu road trip running from King Saul so that he could avoid being killed.

1 Samuel 21-23

Key Travel Verse

And David arose, and fled that day for fear of Saul, and went to Achish the king of Gath. 1 Samuel 21:10 (KJV)

Yearly Non-Vacation Trip

This is Hannah’s yearly trip to the temple when she traveled with her husband and the other wife of her husband.  Yep.  The other wife wasn’t a good travel companion.  Not a fun trip for Hannah!

1 Samuel 1, 2

Key Travel Verses

And this man went up out of his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice unto the LORD of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the LORD, were there.  And when the time was that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions:  But unto Hannah he gave a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: but the LORD had shut up her womb.  And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret, because the LORD had shut up her womb.  And as he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of the LORD, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and did not eat.  1 Samuel 1:3-7

A Well-Traveled Road

We’ve got gawkers on this road!  Something’s happening on the side of the road, but who is going to stop and do anything about it?  It’s a slow-down and look but don’t get involved kind of day for most of the travelers.

Luke 10:25-37

Key Travel Verses

And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.  And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.  And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.  But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,  Luke 10:30-33 (KJV)

The Journeys of Jesus

When Jesus was on earth He traveled all around teaching, healing, and doing good things.  There are so many “road trips” of Jesus you could focus on when teaching a lesson/devotion.

Matthew 4:23 ;  Mark 1:39; John 5:1; Luke 7:11  (These are just some of the verses about Jesus’ traveling.  There are so many!)

Key Travel Verse

How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.  Acts 10:38 (KJV)

Missionary Trips

We can read about the missionary journeys in the New Testament.  And like most “road trips”, sometimes there were contentions like in the case of Barnabas and Paul.

Acts 13; Acts 15:25-41

Key Travel Verses

And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.  So they, being sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed unto Seleucia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus.  Acts 13:3,4 (KJV)
