Planting Words in Due Season

Whether writing or speaking them, words can have such a huge impact on people. Our words have the ability to evoke emotions on all types of levels in other people, so we have to be careful in what we say and also in what we write for other people to read.

I got to thinking about that verse over in Proverbs where it talks about words “in due season”.

The Power of Words Christian Women's Article

Words are so powerful, and just a little encouragement can do so much for a person, especially when their day isn’t going so well as it is.

That verse in Proverbs 15:23 says this.

A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!

As I said earlier, the things we say can have such a powerful impact on people’s lives. Words can bring us to the mountaintop or they can kick us to the valley. Ever notice that? Words can improve someone’s attitude and outlook on life or they can hinder it. And really, it doesn’t have to be some long drawn out argument that can put people in the valley. It can just be one simple little word that can run someone down and put them at a low point.

I think of it like planting. We have to sow those kind and loving words and encourage people because it helps them to grow. It helps them with their outlook. It helps them with their attitude. It helps get them up on that mountaintop so that their view can change.

If we aren’t planting those good words of encouragement into people’s lives on a continual basis, then the bad and hurtful words that someone else may choose to give them are going to be the words that make an impact.

Callous words can wear even the most joyful and exuberant person down. Cruel words can even wear down the strongest and most energetic Christian. Unkind and hurtful words can end up being the weeds that choke out all the good words in someone’s life. So, we have to continually work on that word garden that we plant in the world. It always all goes back to that kindness and love Jesus wants us to show others.
