Food Fellowship Ideas

I still get a lot of messages about this old list that used to be on the website. I thought I’d go ahead and repost it for you since so many of you are actually doing get-togethers again. These are food ideas for parties and events. For those of you looking for book club ideas, a food bar would make a great holiday get-together for that.

Ideas for Food Related Gatherings

I have periodically updated it over the years.


Biscuit Bar

  • Biscuits
  • Various jams and jellies
  • Honey
  • Butter.
  • You could have some honey butter mixed up.  
  • Sausage patties
  • Scrambled eggs (Make it easier by cutting eggs into squares for the biscuits.)

Breakfast

  • Breakfasts make nice prayer meetings.
  • Eggs
  • Sausage, Ham, or Bacon
  • Biscuits and Gravy
  • French Toast (flavored syrups and butter)
  • Waffles (flavored syrups and butter)
  • Cinnamon Rolls

Brunch

  • French Toast (flavored syrups and butter)
  • Bagels and Cream Cheese
  • Muffins
  • Fruit

Candy Buffet

  • Various types of candy
  • Use clear containers to hold the candy.
  • Use little spoons for serving small candies.
  • Use small tongs for larger candies.
  • A candy buffet can be just a few containers of candy to several for a larger buffet.
  • Avoid candies with peanuts as to avoid allergy issues.
  • If you do serve anything with any type of nuts, be sure to label each clearly.

Chili Bar

  • Chili (if you are having a really “hot” one, have a regular one as well)
  • Fritos
  • Diced Green Onions
  • Sour Cream
  • Cheese
  • Tomato (cut into small chunks)

  • Use sugar cookies, cream cheese-based icing, fruit (pizza cookies)
  • Have various types of cookies in containers.

Crepe Bar

  • Crepes
  • Various flavorings of mousse
  • Various fruits/berries

Cupcake Bar

  • Cupcakes (unfrosted)
  • Frosting in various flavors
  • Toppings (sprinkles, candies, chocolate pieces)

Finger Foods

  • Anything to eat that doesn’t require silverware.

Grilled Cheese Bar

  • Various types of bread
  • Various types of cheese
  • Panini grills or electric griddles (electric skillets)
  • Various types of butter (regular, garlic, cinnamon, etc.)
  • Various toppings (onions, olives, etc.)

Hot Dog and/or Hamburger Bar

  • Hot dogs (hamburgers)
  • Condiments (mayo, onions, ketchup, mustard, relish, sauerkraut, tomatoes, lettuce, etc.)
  • Side:  Chips and potato salad

Ice Cream Socials

Italian Dinner

  • Various Types of Pasta
  • Various shredded cheeses for toppings
  • Italian Pizza
  • Bread such as French or a crusty bread.
  • Green Salad to go with pasta
  • Red and white check tablecloths

Pancake Supper (or Breakfast)

  • Pancakes
  • Butter
  • Flavored Syrups
  • Fruit
  • Sausage, Bacon, or Ham Picnic

Pasta Bar

  • Pasta choices (3 or 4 types – depending on how many choices you will want)
  • Sauce choices (tomato, meatless, white garlic, etc.)
  • Cheese choices (parmesan, mozzarella, etc.)
  • Topping choices (chicken strips, cherry tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, etc.)
  • Side:  bread or small salad

Pie Night

  • Various Types of Pie
  • Coffee

Pizza

  • Order in pizza for small groups
  • Make your own (if you have a kitchen to use) – Have several mini pizza crusts made up and ready. Make a variety with various type crusts.
  • For a Pizza Bar, have personal size crusts available, sauce, and a variety of toppings (onions, mushrooms, olives, etc.)

Potato Bar

  • Baking Potatoes
  • Sour Cream
  • Butter
  • Other Toppings (grated cheese, chopped black olives, crumbled bacon, chopped green onions, etc.)
  • Green Salad

Salad Fellowship

  • Hearty Salads (with meat and extra filling things in them)
  • Green Salads (vegetables)
  • Fruit or Dessert Salads
  • Salad Sandwiches (such as chicken, tuna, or egg)
  • Dressings for Green Salads
  • Toppings for Green Salads (chopped tomatoes, olives, grated cheese, etc.)

Sandwich Night

  • Various Types of Bread
  • Various Types of Meat
  • Various Toppings (lettuce, cheese, onions, pickles, chopped black olives, tomatoes, etc.)
  • To make sure you have enough meat, put the meat on the bread ahead of time and label your platters and allow people to add just their own toppings.

Smoothie Bar

  • Blenders
  • Bases:  milk, Almond milk, juices, yogurts, etc.
  • Fruits (strawberries, blueberries, bananas, etc.)–Frozen fruit helps you use less ice!
  • Veggies (for green smoothies)
  • Grains and seeds (flax, Chia seeds, Sunflower seeds, etc.)
  • Provide glasses and milkshake straws (wide straws)

Soup and Salad Fellowship

  • Serve Salad and Soups of all flavors.
  • You could assign various people to bring in different soups in crock pots.
  • Provide bread and crackers.

Submarine Sandwiches

  • Premade submarine sandwiches (homemade or purchased)
  • Fill them with meat only and allow people to add their toppings. (lettuce, various cheeses, onions, pickles, tomatoes, etc.)

Sweet and Salty

  • Sweet (candies, cookies, dessert finger foods)
  • Salty (pretzels, chips, nuts)

Taco Bar

  • Soft and Hard Tacos
  • Lettuce
  • Cheese
  • Sour Cream
  • Taco Meat Mixture
  • Other Toppings (refried beans, chopped black olives, green onions, salsa etc.)
  • Other Mexican Food (tacos, taco salads, corn chips and cheese dip, etc.)

Watermelon

  • Watermelon
  • Cantaloupe and Other Fresh Fruits
  • Fruit kabobs
  • Makes a nice summer fellowship.
